Happy Birthday to the World's Oldest and First National Park!!!!!
Yellowstone National Park means many things to many people. It could be a place that brings bright eyed people eager to seek out its many wonders. They may take a tour, hike, fish, camp, relax in a hotel, cabin, or even a trailer. It is also a place of employment and gaining a sense of freedom in one's life. It is a place where dreams are made, and sometimes even broken. It is a place of conspiracy and controversy.
For me it has been all of those and much more!
I first came out here years ago with my family in a white van. We enjoyed watching the many blackbears on the road that peope were feeding, and I remember the rangers traveled around in the evening with a pa system on their cars blasting out that we needed to store all of our food in our vehicles, so the bears would not get it. My eyes were wide with excitement, but I can truly say I have not ever really been afraid of nature, just man, so the bears did not frighten me, only excited me. I think my family traveled through many national parks and monuments that summer. Years ago I returned to this area, just traveling through the park with a couple and their cat Yin Yang. Then in 1993 I came back to this area for work and a new look on life. Yellowstone has always been a constant place of healing for me and my soul. A place of growth spirtually as well as physically. I have left, but always seem to return to its beauty. It is one of the few places on this Earth that I truly feel at home, and I am Blessed each day with this. Yellowstone is not just the park for me, but all of the areas around, and perhaps the Rocky Mountains in general. It is a place where I can find solitude, and a place to find the crowd. A space in which I am allowed to share with thousands of others, and allowed to share with them its many wonders! I have hiked, camped, and glided over its many white surfaces in the winter, sank in mud and snow, been chilled to the bone, and burnt to a crisp by the sun all within its natural wonders. Yes it is a Wonderland, and people come to ponder and wander, and wonder! I have done this and so much more all in and around this Magickal Place. I am grateful to be here, and each day is truly a new blessing in my life! Yellowstone has seen many changes over the years, primarly in policies and politics, but also in its natural features. New thermal features come into being releasing the pressures from below. People have taken out animals and then bought them back. Scientist discover new lifeforms every year on a much smaller scale than we could before, and have enhanced our lives with things such as DNA Testing. This park just keeps moving along and evolving in its own ways. The ground can break open or rise up a inch or two a year. The wolves feed on elk once again and the elk & bison thrive in the lands made plush from fire and snow. The bears come out and play, feed, and enjoy their homes too. This is truly a Magickal Place and I am Happy to Be Here Now! A most Happy 135th Birthday to you Yellowstone National Park, and all that you are! |
